The worst place in the world. It’s not a hospital it’s a juvenile detention center
My daughter was here for 6 days total. They were horrible. The nurses didn't seem to care when I told them my daughter was being threatened by another patient, then the next day, my daughter was hit by this kid. My daughter told me when it was her turn for calls, around 615. I called back after we talked and by the time I got through to someone to bring it to their attention, it was about 730. They called back about 8 and said they filed a report and told.me what happen, problem was, they didn't call me when it happen. It was hours after the fact and only after I brought it up. I honestly don't tho k they would have bothered to call or do anything if I didn't bring it up. My daughter said they were made to stay in their rooms most of the time and that one of the male staff members grabbed her by the arm hard to take her in the hallway to show her the rules. I signed her out because I wasn't going to let her there when she was scared of the ones supposed to be taking care and helping her. The next morning after we brought her home, she had a bruise mark on her arm where she told me he grabbed her. Do not put your loved ones in this hospital.
I was there on the R.T.F. for 2 years back in 2000-2001 in my early teens. Some of the staff I think really cared about helping the kids but were overwhelmed and there were many staff that should not have been working there "to put it nicely" They were also understaffed to the point were the kids pretty much ran wild. It was dirty too. Southwood was were I started smoking cigarettes..."NO BS" I could go on and on with war stories, but the biggest issue that I had was that it didnt feel like a safe environment and there really wasnt any structure. Maybe its better these days? Based on my experience there I would not recommend it.
When I went there the only thing the kids did was try to hit on me or hurt me. Sometimes people would pee in the showers, write on the walls, or just hurt people. The beds were horrible and when you tried to sleep, all they did was talk and be loud. Also they never let kids do anything, and they hurt them and made them cry. The food is horrible too. If you want your child to be more messed up, DONT BRING THEM THERE.
My 5 year old son just got discharged Thursday after a 12 day stay at South wood. He had seome pretty severe mental health problems. The staff was great at keeping me updated with pretty much everything.. Even when he skinned his little knee. The doctor had called me concerning my son's medications as well. With any progress he made seems the staff was just as happy as I was. I couldn't visit because we live 5 hours away But the staff calling and keeping me updated made it much easier. My son has been doing amazing these last 5 days home.. Thanks to the staff for listening to my concerns and seeing them also for themselves.
