My brother had heart surgery (lvad put in) great doctors and nurses! His nurses Melissa and Kevin was very nice and care about their patients. Rooms were nice and the had their Christmas dinner for employees and visitors toady the food was very good! The lady at information desk going out to the parking garage was very nice! Very nice hospital!
I came for treatment after international travel in a developing country experiencing typical traveler sickness symptoms. I expressed skepticism about needing the IV or CT scan I received. I was told I needed an appendectomy based on misreading the CT scan until the surgeon read the scan and refused an "unnecessary surgery." The only discomfort I felt was on the opposite side of my appendix. Each time a new person came in the room I had to explain everything again including detailed timeline. I will never willingly return to this hospital.
The ER was AWFUL. Three hours to get a bag of saline. Laid in ER for 8 HOURS. My Advance Directive was not even considered. Had 4 seizures, hyponatremia, and turned up into septic shock. And no one did a thing about it.
Allegheny General is in the business to provide service to their customers, with that being said. The hospital needs to relay that information to the aids and nurses that work there! Our experience was we were taking care of ourselves as nurses were having gossip sessions. Poor customer service for sure! I've had better service at McDonald's. We will never go back to Allegany! Omg had to go back, same experience. Thank God I was able to stay and take care of my loved one. I should be getting a 80 percent discount on this hospital stay. I will say the only highlight was nurse Stephanie, what a great nurse!
I was transferred here from Grove City hospital. What a horrible experience. They are apparently severely understaffed. Nurses' calls were routinely ignored. Both my roommate and myself waited for nurses who never came. I was supposed to be discharged but my daytime nurse went home and the night nurse arrived late. I waited for an hour for someone to answer my question about discharge and my roommate waited for an hour for someone to empty her surgical drains because there was apparently NO nurse on the floor to take calls. Seriously? I finally went in my hospital gown and iv stand to the nurses' station to ask why no one had responded only to be told by the one and only nurse there that she had just arrived. God only knows what would have happened if anyone would have had a serious emergency. If this is the best Pittsburgh has to offer, I'll take my chances elsewhere.
