Excellent exhibition of Warhol’s work. The modern design of this museum is really something to behold. The museum has 7 levels and each level represent each decade of Warhol’s amazing accomplishments and artwork. I’m someone who likes to read the description of each piece so it took me 3 hours to get through the entire museum. You have to make a stop by the The Warhol Store as you’re leaving. The store has an amazing assortment of Warhol’s famous sayings along with his iconic pop art. The cafe has some of the best coffee I’ve had, the service at the cafe was excellent as well.
Hardly worth the bother. I went as part of a group as a social event in conjunction with a professional organization I am part of, so I couldn't complain about the price-it was comped. The museum itself is pretty disappointing. You can tour the entire museum in under an hour. What was particularly sad was that 50% or more of the exhibits are modern art that Warhol had nothing to do with. The only upside was the Gift shop, which was large with a lot of cool stuff.
I’m torn since I recognize Warhol’s influence on modern art and pop culture, but so much of this museum seems like excess (perhaps that is fitting for an artist whose excesses are well documented). I’m of the mind that the museum could be reduced in size by half to create a more intimate and focused survey of Warhol’s work. That aside, the building is architecturally detailed and lovely from the outside and the spacious, modern studio/gallery spaces inside are apropos for an artist like Warhol. The gift shop is one of the better ones I’ve seen in an art museum and is worth a visit on the way out. As members of the Carnegie museums, we can visit here for free, but this is the museum we least attend of the four. I much prefer the more comprehensive offerings at the CMOA in Oakland.
Nice space in a great location. Fantastic venue for a networking social I attended there. The art...not so much. Never really got the draw with Warhol and his silk screen soup cans and stuff. Some neat exhibits but I'll take the Carnegie when I want to see art.
We loved it. It exceeded our expectations. Great historical perspective of his life and work, plus a wonderful collection of samples and items from his life reflecting his thoughts and ideas - which shed new light on the importance of his influence - beyond the pop art we’re all familiar with. Gained new appreciation for the depth of his talent and vision. He was truly talented and at the forefront of his craft. Also really found the changing exhibit on the Iranian artist stunning. Keep up the good work of expanding the public’s knowledge of Warhol and introducing us to current new artists as well. Bravo!
