I have been coming to the Carnegie since I was a young child. It is the cultural equivalent of comfort food for me. You can have a "quick trip" to the museum, but be sure you know exactly what you want to see because there is so much there that you could spend days (if not weeks) exploring. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly & helpful, and the displays are fabulous. I highly recommend the dinosaurs and the Egyptian exhibits, if you need a short trip.
A great place to spend the day! Kid friendly and nursing mother friendly! The kid play area was a blast, take your time and let the kids explore. The dinosaur bones are so exciting and don't forget to take pictures. Try different angles to make the kids and dinosaurs look bigger. We got there at 11:00 and that was just enough time to walk through half the museum, try the fossil dig for 20 minutes, play in the kids area and eat lunch at the cafe before the live animal encounter show at 1:30. We finished at just before 4:00. $4 for admission for a family 4 with access card, $8 for animal encounter show, $36 for lunch, and $6 for parking. We can't wait to go again.
Easily spent a good two hours here and it would've been more if it wasn't for a flight to catch! So many different exhibits - it literally seemed endless, but in a great way. From the prehistoric era to different earth stones to an entire exhibit for birds, you will walk out of this part of the museums with a ton of knowledge. It is perfect for those of any ages. You can roam free on your own among all the floors or even take part in a tour. Even with some areas under construction, it never seemed as if we were being limited. Well worth the money.
Want to spend some time and learn things. Museum is the perfect place. Spend hours with the kids looking at everything. Nice Egypt exhibit. The geology display was very nice. Kids loved it. Lots of walking so kids were worn out. Highly recommended.
A world class museum! We are blessed to have the Carnegie in Pittsburgh. There is an abundance to see and do here. At the holidays, the Christmas trees in the Hall of Architecture are a must see as is the immaculately detailed statuary of the nativity in the same room. Currently, there is a special exhibit, “We Are Nature: Living in the Anthropocene,” in the Simmons room on the top floor of the museum. It is among the most thoughtful and thought-provoking exhibits I’ve seen anywhere. If you leave without feeling moved to question the consequences of humanity’s affects in the world, you’re probably not really living. The best part about the Carnegie is how each space is designed to have you interact with the material. You could easily spend weeks (or years as we have with a family membership) getting to truly see and know all the museum has to offer. There are bathrooms throughout, coatcheck, gift stores, and even a very good restaurant within the space. The Carnegie is a Pittsburgh gem!
