I took my son here for dental cleaning and teeth xrays. The wait time was short. The hygienist was so good with my child, she really helped him understand what she was doing, and showed his all her "gadgets" for his teeth. She was also friendly with me. My son loved her. The dentist was surprisingly friendly and kept me well informed. Most doctors or dentists I have experienced have bad people skills and honestly boring (personality-wise). Other dentists will inform their hygenist but keep the patient or guardian out of the loop. This dentist not only spoke directly to my son, and me, but he also informed me of what they would be charging my insurance for, and how to handle the next steps for the fillings that my son would need to get done at a referred childrens specialist. I've never experienced a doctor that kept me updated on billing information or did not overcharge or take advantage of me or my insurance, until now. I am definitely going to start taking my whole family to this office.
I have been a patient at Squirrel Hill Health Center for about 8 years and use them for my medical, psychiatric, and dental health needs. I honestly don't know what the people who leave them bad reviews are talking about. I've gotten excellent and affordable care here. Dr. Gilboa, my PCP is wonderful. Dr. Thompson my psychiatrist has been very caring and willing to listen to me and work with me. The dentists and hygenists have been great, and the front desk staff have always been very nice and patient with me. Also I'm not a particularly easy patient, especially when I don't get the answer I want to hear. Most recently Dr. Suarez, the dental director has spent considerable time with me explaining why I should have a badly cracked and decayed molar extracted. I really wanted to get a root canal and crown and save the tooth, because I never lost a tooth before. After Dr. Suarez went above and beyond to explain why a crown would never last and keeping the tooth would be a source of continued periodontal infection I finally understood that he was giving me expert and ethical dental advice. I can't say enough good things about all the staff at Squirrel Hill Health Center. Are they a very busy medical and dental practice that serves refugees, the poor, the uninsured, and the underinsured. Absolutely! If you're wealthy and/or have excellent health insurance, you will find more creature comforts at a private practice. If you're not and fall into the uninsured or underinsured category and need a medical clinic that offers a sliding scale based on income and committed health care professionals dedicated to providing excellent health care to the underserved, you will find Squirrel Hill Health Center one of the few places in Pittsburgh that provides this care. It's an essential community resource. Thank you to everyone at Squirrel Hill Health Center for the great care you've given me.
I took my friend here today for a visit with Dr. Thompson. After waiting for twenty minutes past her appointment he breezed past her to watch the eclipse from the parking lot. I went up to the reception area to point out that he had a patient waiting. An assistant spoke with him, he went back into his office and we were told he would be "just a minute." Ten minutes later, she is still waiting and becoming visibly distressed. She asked if she could come back and they told her the earliest next appt would be in December! She asked if we could leave, which we did, because she was getting very ancious.. This has happened numerous times....where he leaves a patient waitinh, sometimes more than an hour. What an arrogant jerk to treat someone with anxiety issues like that.
Very friendly staff, very accommodating with scheduling. I saw nurse practitioner Ruth, and she was very thorough with my initial exam. Dental practice was very good as well. Sliding scale fee really diminished the cost of my visit. I can't say enough good things about this practice.
Made an appointment to switch out my Mirena for the Paragard IUD (I explicitly stated I wanted Paragard when scheduling). Was explicitly told I couldn't see the ob/gyn unless I saw the PCP there first. Went to the first appointment, they made me schedule a second appt for the pap smear (IUD swap would be a third appt). The checkout receptionist wouldn't schedule my second appointment and gave me their business card to call their number and schedule (?!?). Schedule the second appt over the phone with the nurse, again stating I wanted Paragard. I had to correct the nurse when she said they'd have to order Mirena for the 3rd appt, and she quickly stated that they'd order Paragard for the 3rd appt. Post-pap smear in the second appt, the PCP decides to tell me they don't place Paragard and is uncertain as to why they don't. Meanwhile, the IUD demonstration tool in the room is Paragard branded. So I had to wait 2 months to first see the PCP only to be told they'd have to refer me out and who knows how long I'll have to wait for THAT appointment.
