Open me another one of those boy and I'll tell you all about the time me and my mam were out at Forbes Field way back I was your age maybe taller but back then I could PLAY, son, I was the best shortstop in the county believe you me and I was watching my Idol Mr. Roberto Clemente out there and me myself I'd brought my lucky slugger along my lucky louisville slugger and so I was out in the stands wishing with all my might I could be as good a baseball player as Clemente. Every time he swung I would like tense up with anticipation and watch and try to learn to be great. And it was the eighth, son, a tight eighth, the Phillies had got five up on us by the third but then Dock hit the mound and a collective sigh of disappointment went out over Philly, believe you me, they knew what was coming. A six-round no-hitter, that day, at Forbes Field, I recall. The kind of streak you don't even talk about in the stands while it's happening. Except the Phillies weren't going down without a fight, we were still down by one by the eighth, and then Clemente steps up to the plate and I know, I just know, this is it. He gives the pitcher, I think it was Woodie Fryman, he looks Woodie in the face and gives this look I could see it this look of like this is it. And the excitement I have to admit it sort of got to me and I grabbed the little bat I'd brought, this cork-centered kid's thing and I started wailing on people around me I swear to god I must have hit fifty or sixty people with the bat. Knocked a dude's tooth into his beer, I remember. They paused the game for all the commotion and by the time it was back on they'd dragged me out and I didn't see the rest. I think Philadelphia won.

Went there yesterday for first time, always wanted to but never had time but yesterday I did. If you are a baseball fan you will get it but you literally get chills standing out there in what would have been left center field. You just imagine all of the ballplayers who once were on that ground and you can close your eyes and literally smell the popcorn. It was also sort of sad thinking they tore a place like that down to replace it with a place that had absolutely no business hosting baseball games.

I was not even born before the place was torn down but those players are the players I think of when I think of MLB.

Luke Haruki is an amateur Outfield Wall rater please disregard his opinion on this matter. This wall deserves nothing less than a 5 star. What a great wall.

Where Babe Ruth hit his last 3 home runs in his final season (with the Boston Braves)--on the same day! A must see place. The Babe did not go quietly. He roared at the fading of the light. His last home run was a real tape measure shot--almost 600 feet.

Aa a youngster from erie visiting my cousin in Oakland we attended numerous Pirate games at Forbes FIeld. It holds a special place in my heart as memories of my youth and love of baseball. I was sad to see the Pirates move to a newer but not so grand ballpark.
