the Aleph Institute provides programs and services for the Jewish men and women incarcerated, their families on the outside, re-entry programs for those returning to society (including job placement, housing, counseling, social services and religious counseling).

It is the best place on earth!!

I originally met Rabbi Vogel when I was unfortunately incarcerated in PA following actions I committed during episode of mental illness precipitated by my divorce. Not surprisingly I was despondent about my situation and life in general. It's been about 7 years since my release and it's been a long and difficult road but I am very blessed to have Rabbi Vogel and the Aleph Institute in my life. I consider it to be one of the very few bright spots of my ending up in prison. Rabbi Vogel is a special individual who is unique in his ability to combine his knowledge of Torah and religion with his real life experiences as a Rabbi who serves the needs of the inmate population and in doing so has been in some of the most dismal places society can warehouse a human being, including segregation, or "the hole". He has brought me and others hope and faith during the darkest period of my life. Since my release he has been a mentor, Rabbi, and friend who has continued to be supportive of me and help me become a better and more productive person. Re-entry to society after having a criminal record and the stigma of an "ex-con" is difficult to say the least and I needed all the help I can get. Rabbi Vogel has always been there for me. Although I live on a modest budget, I have enough for my own needs and occasionally am inspired to support the Aleph Institute and Rabbi Vogel with a modest donation and a thank you. I encourage other people to do the same. Our world is a much better place because of Rabbi Vogel and people like him. As the Rabbi always concludes in his letters, "Zei gezunt"

In addition there are a host of programs for those in state hospitals and group homes.
