Best middle eastern deli/grocer in the area! Whenever we go anywhere else for gyros we always miss Pitaland. They also make the best local pita bread and my personal favorite, pickled turnips (in the fattoush and other salads).
One of my favorite little markets on the planet Earth. This is THE MECCA for just-baked pita which is very inexpensive. Excellent olive bar and bulk grain choices. Owned and operated by the Sheehan family, the patriarch is an immigrant with a fascinating story that he is willing to share. Hard-to-find Mediterranean staples in abundance. Try their freshly fried pita chips, but be careful, they are addictive. It's cool that you can see their automated pita oven operating behind the glass windows.
This is one of the gems of Pittsburgh. Outstanding selection and quality. Reasonable pricing and friendly, knowledgeable staff. The small lunch counter is fantastic addition with freshly made Mediterranean food to order.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE ! I've only been once but the lamb burger is to die for, I tell everyone I know to go as soon as possible. I will be back!
I was in Pittsburgh for a funeral and realized around lunch time that I hadn't eaten breakfast. I took a short walk from the funeral home looking for a cafe that served sandwiches and found this place. I decided to have my first shawarma (lamb) served with a heaping serving of fries and hand-squeezed lemonade. The shawarma was much better than a burger and the fries left me full for the rest of the day with a dipping sauce that perfectly complemented the lamb. The seating isn't very comfortable, but it's a perfect neighborhood lunch spot.
