As someone who grew up in YPS, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed its atmosphere. There was no regular hazan and the various members took turns in leading the services and reading from the Torah [even though in latter years there was a young man who was employed to be ready to read in case of emergency].
Joshua Markovitz
I still remember the ancient building which used to be where Maxon Towers now stands. I used to attend Junior Congregation there in my youth. The main services at that time and for many years after the old building was torn down, were held in the auditorium of the Hebrew Institute [the local community afterschool hebrew school.
I wish everyone there a G'mar Chatima Tova
After many years YPS moved across the street to its current location. While it may be a bit smaller than the previous venue, it still upholds the same principles. When I last visited it was still going strong with the members leading the services, readding from the Torah and giving the drashot.
The congregation is very welcoming. It is orthodox. Despite its name, iys members are aging (they were young when it was started).
Warm, friendly and welcoming.
