I recently called the center to request assistance in helping to find housing for young-Jewish leaders visiting Pittsburgh for a climate change conference and instead of receiving a supportive response the person who answered my call was unbelievably rude. I am ashamed that our Jewish community is so fractured we can't even take the time to politely support one another. This is not how our modern Jewish world should be.
Following weekday morning minyanim the synagogue provides a great breakfast, free. The Rabbi, Stan Savage is an excellent Torah reader who is especially tolerant of and kind to young children.
Friendly rabbi and welcoming atmosphere makes this little synagogue a breathe of fresh air in downtown
I just called there to ask about services this Shabbos as I'll be staying in Pittsburgh for a conference. Rabbi S answered the phone and it was ruder to me than I can remember anyone ever being on the telephone. I was asking him to clarify the address of the shul, as I found two online, and he asked in an annoyed voice if I would be wriiiting to them -- after berating me for his own hearing problems and being generally annoyed to have to speak to me at all. I ended up telling him never mind, I didn't want to visit and hanging up. Which is probably what he was trying to accomplish. Maybe you will have a better experience than I did. Good luck.
